History Made as LAUTECH Holds Maiden Non-Teaching Staff Valedictory Lecture

On Monday, 29th June, 2026, the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso recorded yet another milestone as it held the maiden edition of its Valedictory Lecture for Non-Teaching Staff, tagged "Echoes of Service: Valedictory Rendezvous".

In what many staff members described as an unprecedented show of love, the administrative staff of the Institution mounted a guard of honour for Dr. (Mrs) Olufunso Olanike Oloke, Deputy Registrar, Directorate of Student Affairs who was retiring from the University at the grounds of the A.M Salau Senate Building. It was an emotional Dr. Oloke who walked through the corridor created the administrators.

The Programme climaxed with a well-attended Lecture titled “Dot The I’s and Cross The t’s: Say It Loud”. In the course of the lecture, Dr. Oloke emphasized the need for meticulousness. She disclosed that “the idiom to dot your I’s and cross your t’s is a simple call to pay attention to small details when you are finishing a task. Its origin is associated to the cursor style of writing where it is said that I’s are dotted and t’s are crossed after writing every word or completing a sentence”. She further pointed out that “it means to do something very carefully and complete something with attention to details”.

Shedding light on the advantages of dotting I’s and crossing t’s, Dr. Oloke disclosed that”in written or procedural assignment or task, it prevents costly misunderstandings, ensures absolute precision and guarantees needed completeness”.

In his opening remarks at the Lecture, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor R.O. Rom Kalilu stated that “the achievements we celebrate as a university today are, in no small measure, attributable to the selfless service of our Non-Teaching Staff members, from the Registry, to the Bursary as well as the different Departments and Units”. He thereafter commended the organizers for “conceptualizing a platform that not only celebrates retirement as a significant milestone but also transforms it into opportunity for institutional memory, reflection and inspiration”. He also expressed optimism that the programme would become an enduring tradition in the Institution’s calendar.

LAUTECH Registrar, Mrs. Olayinka Balogun took time to appreciate Dr. Oloke for her years of meritorious service as she delivered a welcome address. She made it known that the Valedictory Lecture was “an initiative conceived to celebrate the invaluable contributions of retiring Senior Non-Teaching Staff, to honour their years of dedication and to preserve the quality experiences they have gifted to this institution which is today the Best State University in Nigeria”. She also took time to appreciate the Vice Chancellor, Professor Rom Kalilu for approving the programme.
