No fewer than 10,223 students will graduate from the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, as the institution marks its 36th Founder’s Day and 18th Convocation Ceremonies.
Of this number, 7,641 graduands from 11 faculties will be awarded bachelor’s degrees, while 2,582 will receive postgraduate qualifications.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Razaq Olatunde Rom Kalilu, disclosed this during a press conference held on Thursday to herald the convocation ceremonies.
A breakdown of the graduating students shows that 137 earned First-Class Honours, 1,889 obtained Second Class Upper Division, 1,008 graduated with Third Class, while 37 finished in the Pass category.
Professor Kalilu also stated that the university has maintained its position as the best state-owned university in Nigeria and is currently enjoying a period of stability.
Highlighting progress made under his administration, he noted a departure from past instability, adding that the university is on course to complete its fourth uninterrupted academic session since he assumed office nearly three years ago.
“For the first time in about 12 years, the University granted its students a long vacation after the last academic session,” he said.
He attributed the uninterrupted academic calendar and sustained peace to the dedication of staff, cooperation of unions, and a commitment to inclusive and strategic administration.
The Vice-Chancellor further revealed that the university has introduced an administrative strategy to address the backlog of promotion arrears. Under the new system, promotion letters are prepared immediately each case is concluded, ensuring that successful staff receive their letters without delay.
He also announced the promotion of 43 academic staff to the rank of professor.
The week-long convocation programme will continue with a Jumu’ah service on Friday, April 17, and a church service on Sunday, April 19, 2026. The events will culminate on Thursday, April 23, 2026, with the award of postgraduate diplomas, conferment of higher degrees, and the 36th Founder’s Day celebration.
