The Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde has approved the appointment of Prince Abimbola Akeem Owoade as the new Alaafin of Oyo.
The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, who announced the appointment on behalf of the governor on Friday, said that Owoade after thorough consultations and divinations, has been recommended by the Oyomesi who are the kingmakers of the ancient town of Oyo.
While adding that Owoade's name has been approved by the governor, the Commissioner disclosed that, a statement to this effect has been issued by the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ademola Ojo.
The statement posited that the announcement has put to rest, all the social and legal bickerings that have ensued since the demise of His Imperial Majesty, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III on April 22, 2022.
Hon. Ojo called on all citizens of Oyo State to join the Government in celebrating this momentous occasion and lend their support to the new Alaafin of Oyo.
The Commissioner went on to pray that his reign will bring peace, prosperity and unity to the historic Oyo Kingdom.
Prince Abimbola Akeem Owoade, who is in his late 40s hails from the royal Owoade-Agunloye family of Oyo and is one of the surviving children of Pa Rasaki Ibiyosi Owoade. His lineage has been traced back to Aremo Aderounmu Iyanda Owoade from Agure Compound, Oyo, embedding him deeply in the cultural and historical fabric of the Oyo Kingdom.
He attended Baptist High School, Saki after which he obtained a National Diploma and Higher National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from The Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, and The Polytechnic, Ibadan, respectively.
Prince Owoade boasts of a professional life that has taken him across continents, from being a Planning Engineer at Oil Reach Company in Glasgow, UK, to his current role as a Project Coordinator at Manitoba Hydro, Canada. He is also the president of 100279 Manitoba Limited, focusing on real estate and financial services.
