Dedicates victory to God and people of Oyo State

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Sunday declared Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde winner of the 2023 governorship election in the state.

While announcing the result, Professor Adedayo Bamire, the State Returning Officer, confirmed that Governor Seyi Makinde, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won the election with 563,756 votes.

Makinde, who won in 31 of the 33 Local Government Areas in the state defeated Senator Teslim Folarin of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Chief Bayo Adelabu of Accord who polled 256,685 and 38,357 respectively.

In a chat with newsmen at his residence shortly after the declaration, Governor Makinde said " I want to say thank you to my leaders, elders, our supporters, who have done really well. This victory is dedicated to God and to the good people of Oyo State.”

Apart from the wide margin, Makinde interestingly won the polling units of former Governor Rashidi Ladoja who had thrown his weight behind Senator Folarin as well as the one near the APC candidate's family compound.

Governor Makinde has become the second man to be reelected as Governor in the history of Oyo State. Senator Abiola Ajimobi who governed the state between 2011 and 2019 was the first.
