Fayemi Emerges Governors' Forum Chairman

Ekiti State Governor, Dr. John Kayode Fayemi, on Wednesday became the Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum. Fayemi made history by becoming the first  South West Governor ever to emerge as the forum's chairman.

Past chairmen of the forum include : Alhaji Abdullahi Adamu, (Nasarawa, 1999 – 2004), Victor Attah (Akwa Ibom State, 2004 -2006), Chief Lucky Igbinedion (Edo, 2006 – 2007), Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki (Kwara, 2007- 2011), Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers, 2011 -2015) and Abdulaziz Yari (2015-2019).
"The formation of the NGF was not only expedient but imperative for the states to assert themselves and to collectively influence the nature and course of policies at the national level", information on the forum's website revealed.
Governors from the People's Democratic Party threw their weight behind Dr. Fayemi, who they preferred to Governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, another candidate for the position. t
The Governors' Forum lost a bit of it's glamour years ago when Governor Jonah Jang was almost set up as parallel Chairman against Hon. Rotimi Amaechi. It is however expected to improve upon the tenure of his predecessor and help to regain the forum's past glory.
