Since 2011, son of man has been spending at least 3 days in
one week in Ijebu and some parts of Lagos State, mostly Epe, Ikorodu, Agbowa,
Imota and Itoikin. You need to be on ground to know how it feels among the
lowest of the low.
Many pray for long life. I don't.
And, back home, our elders
often quarrel with me about it. After 50 years of age, you must be preparing
for the other side. And, for me, it is VIP given the fact that the males in my
family hardly get to the golden age.
The poor in most of these areas do not need much to keep
going. Many will be surprised that 'ordinary' N5,000 can start a trade for most
of them. Make it N10,000 and you have firmly established the person. But that
goes mainly for women and males involved in farming.
My heart bleeds each time I see girls as young as 10 years
old being pushed out by the parents to solicit for sex from adults as old as 60
years. Married women get as little as N200 with the full knowledge of their
husbands to engage in extramarital affairs. Some get gari or rice to be
prepared for the children at home after such acts.
It still baffles me why Governors always insist on grandiose
projects, neglecting the wretched of the earth in the process. It is either
they have no clue or they feel there'll be no tomorrow for them to continue
along this path that holds no portion of eternity for them. It takes very
little, but quality planning to help the poor.
Right now, most, if not all our Governors, are helping the
well-to-do in every way and leaving the poor to their fate. Of course, that is
the exact opposite of what God demands. To me, I feel it accounts for the
'little' problems often thrown the way of such persons by the Almighty in His
unsearchable ways.
Another set is preparing to take over. We ask that you
remember the poor. They are not asking for much. They do not even need much.
Just assist them to 'find their level' by ensuring their children have access
to Education, Healthcare Services, Potable Water and Roads.
But if you don't, it is our prayer that silent problems will
continue to visit you and your families!
