11 Members Suspended as Akwa Ibom Assembly Resumes, Dissolves Committees

The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, led by the New Speaker, Rt. Hon. (Sir) Nse Ntuen reconvened on Tuesday with members present at the plenary condemning the impunity unleashed by the former Speaker, Rt. Hon. Onofiok Luke last week Monday.

A motion to suspend the following lawmakers: Onofiok Luke, Udo Kerian Akpan, Felicia Bassey, Nse Essien, Lawrence Udofia, Usoro Akpanusoh, Ime Okon, Friday Iwok, Asuquo Archibong, Mark Esset, Emmanuel Ekpenyong and Aniekan Uko till further notice was moved and subsequently adopted.

The House also dissolved all standing committees, said to have been constituted illegally by the former Speaker.
Committees are to be reconstituted by the House, headed by the Honourable Speaker, Rt. Hon. Nse Ntuen as the House adjourned till Tuesday 4th, December, 2018.
Meanwhile, as the sitting went on, thugs believed to be loyal to the Governor, Deacon Udom Emmanuel attempted to invade the House, apparently to disrupt the sitting.
The invasion however failed and the assembly continued the business of the day.
