No fewer than four people, including a baby lost their lives on Ring Road in Ibadan as a fuel-laden tanker lost control and crushed a motorcyclist, his passengers and a bystander.
The accident occurred just after the popular Palms Shopping Mall around 11:48 am.
The truck, which was coming from the Challenge end of the road was heading towards Mobil when its brakes failed. In an apparent bid to veer of the road into a nearby bush to avoid causing a major accident, it hit a bike which had a woman and the baby girl strapped to her back as passengers. The three died instantly. Another cyclist who was waiting nearly opposite Oni and Son's Bust Stop too was crushed.
Men of the Federal Road Safety Corps moved in within minutes to move the bodies to the State Hospital Morgue, Adeoyo Road.
The nursing mother, the wife of one Mr. Ayodeji, a resident of the Oni and Son's area was said to have had the baby in August. She was returning from the market where she bought ingredients for moinmoin among other things.
Men of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps were on standby till the fuel was siphoned into another tanker to prevent a fire outbreak.
