Nigeria drops to 50th on FIFA ranking

Nigeria's Super Eagles dropped nine spaces to occupy the 50th position in the latest FIFA ranking released on Thursday. At 50th, Nigeria is ranked as the 8th best in Africa behind Senegal, Africa's best at 23rd, Tunisia which is rated as 27th on the ranking, Egypt retaining the 31st position, Congo DR which moved up by seven spaces to the 36th position. Morocco is on the 4oth position followed by Burkina Fasso and Cameroon.

The top five remain unchanged with Germany retaining the number one position while Brazil, Portugal, Argentina and Belgium follow.
Spain is 6th and others on the top 10 are Poland, Switzerland, France and Chile.
Nigeria became the first African country to qualify for the 2018 World Cup after a 1-0 victory over Zambia. The draw against Algeria earlier in the month was thus inconsequential.
