Ali Modu Sheriff Emerges PDP Chairman

The National Executive Committee of the People's Democratic Party
, PDP, on Tuesday confirmed Senator Ali Modu Sheriff as the substantive Chairman of the party.
Sheriff, a former Governor of Borno State had been alleged to have links with the Boko Haram terrorist group. The allegation many believe is based on the fact that Boko Haram grew as an Islamist sect when he was Governor.

PDP members in some quarters believe the party needs a "tough" personality who would command respect and be able to take decisive decions.
The chairmanship of the party has been a source of controversy in time past with former chairmen like Audi Ogbeh, Vincent Ogbulafor and Bamanga Tukur not leaving office in peace.
