Bailout Palaver: PDP Reports Aregbesola to Buhari Over "Refusal to Pay Salary Arrears"

The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has called on President Muhammadu  Buhari to wade into an impending crisis in Osun State following the refusal of the state governor to pay workers 9 months salary arrears despite collecting the "bail out fund" from the Central Bank of Nigeria two weeks ago.

In a statement signed by the party's Director of Media and Strategy, Prince Diran Odeyemi, the party accused Gov Rauf Aregbesola of placing Osun workers under stringent conditions, before they could be paid their arrears.

"Governor Aregbesola, who recently ordered the screening of workers commanded them to produce originals of their birth certificates and original primary school leaving certificates insisting that sworn affidavits or declaration will not be accepted before they can be paid"

The statement further read that "this is not fair and absurd, it is wickedness especially at this time that when Eid el kabir is near, Governor Aregbesola's 'one-man riot squad' government should be condemned by Nigerians.
We believe Ogbeni Aregbesola is only buying time, having fixed the money in a bank so as to yield interest for his personal benefit from the fund"

While condemning the on-going workers screening exercise embarked upon by the government,  PDP asked, "why is it that after the CBN released the bailout fund without asking for primary school leaving certificates of workers, the governor deemed it fit to screen workers and what purpose is this exercise other than to buy time for the money to yield interest and also retrench workers?"

"Having spent over N500 million for biometric screening of the state workforce in 2013, which led to a monthly payment of N50 million to a Lagos-based consultant to undertake direct payment of workers salaries since then, we wonder why another screening is being done in 2015 by another Lagos-based consultant. All these are the reasons why Osun State is in debt and has been unable to perform" the party concluded.
