Police Bust Kidnappers’ Den in Ijebu Ode, Arrest 70-Year-Old Woman!


The Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Ogun State Police Command busted a den of kidnappers around 11. 30 am on Tuesday at Ita Marun in Ijebu Ode. While giving details of the arrests made, the Public Relations Officer of the Command, DSP Muyiwa Adejobi disclosed that “one of the kidnappers died, some escaped with bullet wounds and four suspects were arrested after a fierce gun battle between the SARS operatives and the kidnappers”.
Adejobi also revealed in a statement on Wednesday that a male kidnap victim was rescued from the kidnappers who had just succeeded in kidnapping him before the police pounced on them.

The statement reads in part “the police had earlier placed the kidnappers in Ijebu Ode axis of the state under surveillance as a result of a slight increase in the cases of kidnapping in the area which was condemned by the command in all ramifications and efforts were being put in place by the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State, CP Val Ntomchukwu to curtail kidnapping and other social vices in Ijebu Ode and its environs.”

The Police PRO gave the identities of the suspected kidnappers as Ganiyu Olaiya, a herbalist, Segun Makanjuola, a Prophet as well as Bisi Akinleye and Banjo Adekunle, both pastors. Adejobi also stated that “one short locally made gun, some empty cartridges and live cartridges were recovered from the suspects. Also, their operational vehicle, a black Cherokee Jeep with Registration Number LAGOS LND 25 CE was recovered from them”.

Adejobi told The Anchor Online that the suspects have confessed to the crime and will appear in court after investigation.

In another development, SARS operatives in Ogun State also arrested 3 suspected armed robbers who have been terrorizing the people of Abeokuta in Ogun State over the years.
According to DSP Adejobi, “the suspects were arrested at different places and time after the arrest of the ring leader, one Modinu Lateef,35, who had participated in many robbery operations in Abeokuta and its environs.
Other suspected armed robbers arrested include Okunkenu Wale,30, and Fatai Osho,28.
Two locally made guns with cartridges were recovered from them”.
Adejobi revealed that “they have confessed to many robbery operations at various places within Abeokuta including Imo, Oke-Bode, Oke-Ejigbo, Ijemo Agbadu and Isale Ijehun where they robbed and raped some of their victims.

The mother of the ring leader, Modinu Lateef, Mrs Monilola Lateef,70, of Sodeke Area Abeokuta has also been apprehended for taking her son for treatment of bullet wounds at a local traditional clinic after he sustained bullet injuries during one of their operations in Abeokuta”.

The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State CP Val Ntomchukwu commended the operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the state for their commitment and directed that the matter be adequately investigated and suspects be charged to court accordingly.
