"PDP Plotting to Attack Rallies & Foment Trouble in Akwa Ibom", APC Alleges

The Legal Department of the Campaign Council of the All Progressives Congress has sent a petition to the National Human Rights Council, over an alleged plot by members of the People's Democratic Party to attack APC members at rallies and cause trouble in Akwa Ibom State.
Below is the text of the petition, as obtained by The Anchor Online:

A petition against PDP for plotting to attack APC rallies and foment mayhem in Akwa Ibom State

1. We hereby write to alert the National Human Rights Commission to a plot by leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State to attack APC rallies and then stage fake reprisal attacks to create a pretext to unleash mayhem on and arrest leaders of the party in the state.

2. The plot was hatched in a meeting on Sunday night at the home of Murray Eyo in Shelter Afrique Estate, Uyo. The details are for PDP to send its thugs to attack and disrupt APC campaign rally in Essien Udim Local Government Area slated for next Friday or any other campaign rally of the party. By pre-arrangement President Goodluck Jonathan campaign rally in Uyo, known as the Transition Ambassadors of Nigeria (TAN), and other government offices will then be burnt down by government and PDP thugs.

3. The arson will subsequently be blamed on APC leaders in the state as a pretext to arrest them. The entire plot is called the Udoedehe Treatment. This is a reference to attack on Senator John Udoedehe/ACN campaign in Ikot Ekpene in 2011 which was followed with a staged counter attack in Uyo leading to the touching of government buildings and vehicles, including President Jonathan’s campaign office. Senator Udoedehe was later arrested for the incidents and kept in detention until the eve of the election. The plot by the PDP and the state government is to use similar excuse to arrest Mr Umana Okon Umana and his key supporters and keep them in detention until after the election.

4. The plot is consistent with the boast by the state governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio that most of the leaders of APC in the state will not be around to be part of the coming elections.

5. Those who were present at the meeting where the plot was hatched include Murray Eyo, who hosted the meeting in his Shelter Afrique home; Prince Akpabio, cousin to the state governor; Mr Ifiok Uko, younger brother and PA to Monday Uko, commissioner for youths and sports, who represented the commissioner; Etim Etim Awatim, chairman Ini Local Government Area; Emmanuel Akpan, a member representing Essien Udim in the State House of Assembly, who owns Emmza Petroleum; Mark Essien, Chairman of Nsit Atai LocaL Government Area.

6. Before the meeting dispersed, Prince Akpabio suggested that Governor Akpabio should be briefed on the plot so that he could use his office to counter “Umana’s powerful connections among the security agencies in the country.”
We have written this petition to apprise the National Human Rights Commission of the evil intention of the PDP in the state based on our belief that a stitch in time saves nine."
