Nigerian Military Retakes Baga from Terrorists

The Nigerian Defence Headquarters on Saturday disclosed that military forces have recaptured Baga, a Borno State town which was sacked by terrorists recently. There were claims that as many as 2000 lives were lost during the invasion of Baga by the Boko Harm terrorist group, though the Nigerian military put the body count at less than 200.

The terrorist group overran a military base and later displayed the weapons taken on video with Shekau, the group's leader claiming the weapons in Baga are "enough to annihilate Nigeria".
A message from the Defence HQ Twitter account on Saturday afternoon read "Troops have this afternoon captured #BAGA after fierce battle with terrorists. Heavy Casualties. Mopping up ongoing".
Nigeria is expected to hold general elections in March and military operations have been intensified in the North East to free the area occupied by insurgents.
