3 Killed, 2 Arrested as Police Smash Robbery Gang in Ogun



The Ogun State Police Command, on Sunday announced that operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad in the state busted the den of a gang of deadly armed robbers who had terrorized the Atan/Onibukun communities in Ado Odo Otta Local Government Area for some time. According to a statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, and made available to The Anchor Online, “three of the robbers fell after a fierce gun battle and two were arrested with arms after sustaining injuries from the fire power of the police”.


Adejobi stated that “the operatives have been on surveillance of the den for almost a month before they embarked on the successful operation recently, with the help of some members of the public who assisted in gathering information on the area.
The deadly and notorious armed robbers, on sighting the SARS operatives, opened fire on the police operatives and they repelled them fire for fire. Three of them were left dead, two arrested while others escaped with fatal bullet wounds, and two barreta pistols, loaded with three rounds of live ammunition, one locally made revolver pistol with four rounds of live ammunition, one locally made long barreled gun loaded with live cartridges, assorted charms and one Bajaj motorcycle without registration number which is being used for operations by the robbers.”

Adejobi also disclosed that “the injured suspected armed robbers are receiving treatment in a hospital with a view to assisting the police in their investigation on getting more information and the likes. The command therefore appeals to the general public particularly medical practitioners to be on the lookout for any patients with suspected bullet wounds and endeavor to notify the Ogun State Police Command or any police formation around them of such for necessary action”.

The residents of the affected communities and their neighbors in the area have commended the police command for the achievement and ability to sustain good security networking in Ogun State at large.

The Commissioner of Police Ogun State CP Valentine Ntomchukwu has directed thorough investigation into the activities of the robbers in the area and Ogun State in general as more facts will be revealed which will definitely assist the police in combating crimes in Ogun State.

The new Commissioner of Police, who resumed duty in Ogun State barely three days before the successful operation, has assured the people of the state of adequate security of lives and property, and enhanced community-based and effective policing.

He has also promised that the command will arraign the arrested armed robbers and other suspects arrested for various offenses in court as soon as the strike embarked on by judicial workers is over.
