The report was debunked via a statement signed by the Chairman of the PTA,
Dr. M.A Oloko on Wednesday. Below is the text of the statement;
“The attention of the Parents Teacher Association of the
Nigerian Navy Secondary School, Abeokuta has been drawn to the National Mirror
publication of Friday, 7 November, 2014, page 29, captioned “Navy School Bans
Student From Observing Salat”, where the reporter mis-conceptualized and distorted
the fact of the matter for reasons known to her.
The above named stakeholder of the school categorically
refutes this weighty allegation and urges the general, public particularly parents
or guardians to disregard it as malicious for the reporter quoted the
Commandant out of context. The allegation is baseless and contrary to what is
practicable in the school.
The PTA had an annual general meeting on Saturday, 8
November, 2014.
During the meeting, attention was drawn by one of the parents who requested to know the praying pattern of the students in the school which was deliberated upon and a clear explanation was made by the school Chaplain and the Imam to the satisfaction of all the parents".
Dr. Oloko also stated that "the school authority has continued to improve on the welfare needs of the students as well as harnessing all available resources to improve the standard of education in the school which is acceptable to all concerned".
It was also made known that the school library and the Deputy Commandant's instructional house have been renovated by the PTA. Dr. Oloko also made it known that "the PTA will continue to work closely with the Commandant".
