Ogun CP Lauds NPF on International Police Training

The Commissioner of Police Ogun State, CP Ikemefuna Okoye has lauded the Nigeria Police Force and its officers and men who attended and participated in the 121st International Association of Chiefs of Police(IACP) Conference held between 25th and 28th of October 2014 at the Orange County Convention Center,Orlando Florida,United States of America.

The Commissioner of Police who was among the delegates permitted by the Inspector General of Police,Federal Republic of Nigeria,IGP Suleiman Abba,to participate in the conference,appreciated the Inspector General of Police for his concern towards training and empowerment of police personnel. He admonished the participants to harness the opportunities and productive models of policing provided by the globally-acceptable and result-oriented training organized by the IACP towards achieving modern and required Police agencies all over the world.

CP Okoye also charged the Nigerian delegates to perceive the ethics and principles of the International Police Body as a paradigm shift to attain a crime-free stage in the world particularly in Nigeria considering the present security challenges in the country more so that much is expected from the Nigeria Police Force as the lead agency in the security business of the country,Nigeria.

The International Association of Chiefs of Police was established in 1893 to advance professional police services,promote enhanced administrative,technical and operational police practices,foster cooperation and exchange of information and experiences among police leaders and police organizations,with a common goal of combating crimes and violent crimes in the whole world,with its headquarters located at Alexandria, USA. The association,with the motto" Serving the Leaders of Today and Developing the Leaders of Tomorrow" permits police chiefs/officers and other relevant security chiefs or personnel to be active members while others who are stakeholders in security business can be inactive members and it's conventions come once in every year on rotational basis in designated countries particularly states in the United States of America.

In his remarks,the President of the Association, Chief Yousry "Yost" Zakhary,who doubles as the Director Woodway Public Safety Department,Woodway,Texas USA, did welcome all delegates to the conference and encouraged them to enjoy the goodies of tourism and beauties of Orlando city in Florida while they attend training sessions to update themselves in all ramifications of policing.

At the opening ceremony of the convention,which was held on the 25th October,2014, men of honour and dignity,who had rendered services towards the success of the convention,including Mr John "Buddy" Dyer, Mayor, Orlando, Florida and Mr John Mina,Chief of Police,Orlando Police Department,appreciated the delegates for attending the conference held in the tourist destination of Florida and assured them of safety and successful convention.

The first General Assembly and Uniform Day,being one of the key events of every convention,was held on Monday 27th October,2014 at the Orange County Convention Center,the venue of the convention with many events to include Parliamentarian's Election Commission Report where the newly elected officers were declared,Reaffirmation of Oath of Honour by all members,Police Officers Award of the Year,Webber Seavey Award,an address by James Comey,Director,Federal Bureau of Investigation,USA and a lecture delivered by the Attorney General of the United States. The assembly created venue for police agencies all over the world to showcased their uniforms including the globally-valued Nigeria Police ceremonial uniform which was celebrated by all delegates who were present at the event.

In his goodwill message,relayed via an electronic screen,to the convention delegates, President Barrack Obama of the United States,welcomed IACP delegates to the USA and reassured IACP of US government commitment towards better policing and having a crime-free globe.

The convention also availed the delegates opportunities of visiting many tourist centers in Orlando Florida including the popular Disney World (Magic Kingdom), Island of Adventure and a host of others,and many other side attractions as part of the events lined up for the convention.

The Commissioner of Police Ogun state CP Ikemefuna Okoye appreciated the Inspector General of Police IGP Suleiman Abba for granting permits to him and other Nigeria Police Delegates to attend the international convention with a view to meeting and cross-fertilizing ideas of modern policing to update police personnel in tackling security challenges in Nigeria as he further encouraged stakeholders in security in Nigeria to assist the Nigeria Police Force in provisions of some of the sophisticated equipment and gadgets on display at the Exhibition Hall of the Convention which will definitely go a long way in promoting modern policing

The IACP conference came to an end on Tuesday 28th October,2014 with a banquet held at the convention center to celebrate the successes recorded at the 121st convention held in Orlando Florida,USA.
