Former Anambra Governor, Peter Obi Dumps APGA, Joins PDP

The immediate past Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi has dumped the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), on whose platform he was elected as governor for two terms. Obi, who many tipped for a ministerial position dumped his old party for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Obi announced his decision to join the PDP when some leaders of the PDP in the South East visited him on Tuesday. The leaders that visited former Governor Obi included Senator Anyaim Pius Anyim, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, the Deputy President of the Senate, Honourable Emeka Ihedioha, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Governors Theodore Orji and Godswill Akpabio of Abia and Akwa Ibom states were also there. Chief Olisah Metuh, the National Publicity Secretary of the party too was at Obi’s residence.

The former Governor promised to work towards the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015.

Peter Obi, fondly referred to as “Okute” (The Rock) and Dr. Olusegun Mimiko were believed to be PDP members at heart, despite being card carrying members of other parties.

With Mimiko leading Ondo’s Labour Party members into the PDP, feelings are being expressed that Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State may defect too.
