FJSC Nominates Mahmud Mohammed as Chief Justice of Nigeria

Justice Mahmud Mohammed has been nominated as the Chief Justice of Nigeria by the Federal Judicial Service Commission (FJSC). Mohammed was nominated to replace Justice Mariam Aloma Mukhtar, the first female CJN in the country's history. Justice Alooma Mukhtar will be due for retirement as she clocks 70 on November 20, 2014.
Findings revealed that the choice of Mr. Justice Mahmoud Mohammed was unanimously arrived at by the FJSC which sent his name for confirmation by the National Judicial Council which will in turn forward it to the President for appointment.

Justice Mohammed who hails from Jalingo in the present day Taraba State was born in November, 1946 and he obtained his Bachelor of Law degree from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria after which he was called to the Bar in 1971. He served as a judge in the old Gongola State after which he served as the Chief Justice of Taraba State. He was also a justice of the Court of Appeal after which he was appointed as a Justice of the Supreme Court.
