It was an unprecedented crowd that witnessed the formal declaration of Engineer Oluseyi Makinde for the governorship race of Oyo State on Thursday.

In his declaration speech, Makinde who was a senatorial candidate for Oyo South district in 2007 responded to those who opined that he is too young foe the position as he noted that "great leaders like Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Chief Bola Ige and Dr Omololu Olunloyo became governors of our great state about my age. Also, Heads of States and Presidents like Barack Obama of the United States of America, David Cameron of Great Britain and Vladimir Putin of Russia became leaders of their countries when they were about my age".
Engineer Makinde also said "incompetence has nothing to do with whether you are a Muslim, a Christian or a traditional practitioner, sevice delivery is the key to the hearts of our people".
While lauding Chiefs Obafemi Awolowo, Bola Ige and Kolapo Ishola for what they bequeathed to indigenes of Oyo State, especially in sectors like education and agriculture, Makinde expressed sadness that the current rulers have eroded these constant trademarks of Oyo State. "We owe our children and our children's children the duty to reverse the rot in education", he said. He went on to describe the emergence of Oyo State as the 24th out of 36 states and FCT in the 2014 published WAEC result as "unacceptable".
As he lamented the rot in healthcare delivery system and half-baked attempt at physical infrastructure development across the state Makinde observed that the fountain that was designed and built by his wife in front of his house works, compared to the one that state resources was spent on at KS Motel junction, Total Garden, Ibadan that has never worked.
The aspirant, known for his philanthropic gestures spoke on his plans to transform Oyo State through "Operation HEAPS" which will ensure prompt attention to Healthcare delivery, Education, Agriculture, Physical Infrastructure and Security.
Speaking on Education, Makinde said "our primary and secondary schools are in danger of total collapse. The APC government has desecrated the school environment I was proud of". He promised to reverse the downward trend in education in Oyo State via a synergistic strategy that will focus on the teachers, pupils and parents.
