Group Petitions President as Sambo's Pilot Gets Extension After 35 Years of Service!

A group embittered by the waiver allegedly given to the police pilot of the Vice President’s helicopter to enable him continue on the job after having put in the mandatory 35 years of service, has sent a petition to President Goodluck
Jonathan.
The letter, written by the Concerned Citizens of Nigeria urged President Goodluck Jonathan to look into the irregularities in the Police Force which are meant to favour a small group of officers who are already due for retirement.
It was contained in the letter that the extension was meant to have been approved back in the days of Mohammed Abubakar as the Inspector-General. The Anchor however gathered that the former IG put his foot down that due process should be followed when he was approached on the issue by Chief Mike Okiro, the Chairman of the Police Service Commission, who incidentally also retired as an Inspector-General of Police.
Findings revealed that the extension given to AIG Ilesanmi Aguda of the Air Wing of the Police Force made a lot of officers uncomfortable, especially those in the junior cadre.
Tongues are already wagging that the Vice President, Architect Namadi Sambo and the Senate President, David Mark might be meddling in police affairs, reason being that AIG Aguda pilots the Police helicopter normally used by the two top government functionaries.
While politicians have been fingered as the arrowhead of the extension, some officers believe it would be difficult to absolve Chief Okiro of complicity in the issue as he is said to have an influence on the Acting Inspector-General.
