DEAR DEIDRE: ONE of my boyfriend’s pupils has such a crush on him that it makes me uncomfortable.
He is 28 and teaches at a secondary school. We have been together since we were at university. I am 27 and a physiotherapist.
This girl is 16 and now in the sixth form. She still texts him every day, sends heart emojis and says she loves him.
There’s no sexual content but the tone’s flirting. If I question this, he gets angry and says he sees her like a daughter.
She has a difficult relationship with her father and my boyfriend used to stand in for him at school functions
He goes the extra mile for his pupils but I’m not sure whether he is blind to what is going on with this girl or likes the way it feeds his ego. Is this just a harmless crush?
DEIDRE SAYS: It is a very healthy sign you are able to see this girl’s messages, so your boyfriend is not trying to hide their contact.
Teenage girls often sound flirty with their own fathers without anything untoward going on.
He probably is important to her, so let it go – as long as all their contact is visible to you.
Make sure your own relationship with him is warm and loving.
