"We Are Investigating Oriyomi Hamzat For Cyberbullying", Police Confirm


The Nigerian Police Force has opened up on the arrest of popular Ibadan-based broadcaster, Oriyomi Hamzat who was picked up by operatives of the Force on Thursday morning. Hamzat, who is the Chief Executive Officer of Agidigbo FM has been very vocal about the murder of Timothy Adegoke who was murdered in a hotel owned by a popular Ife businessman. 

Police Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, a Chief Superintendent of police confirmed via a statement that Hamzat "was arrested in ibadan today by our Force Intelligence Bureau operatives in connection with a case of Cyber Bullying under investigation". 

He averred that "Oriyomi's arrest was sequel to his refusal to honour Police invitation severally, which prompted the police to secure a warrant for his arrest. 

We are looking into the petition written against him on his violation of the Cyber Crime Act, 2015, and necessary action will be taken to do justice in the matter". 

Oriyomi had earlier announced his arrest via a video that went viral, stating that he had been arrested and taken to Abuja.
