Xenophobia: Security Agencies Wade in as Nigerians Invade Shoprite in Ibadan

The Shoprite outlet located inside The Palms Mall, Ring Road, Ibadan on Tuesday came under attack, apparently as a result of reports of xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa.
There was heavy security presence as police and Civil Defence Vans had to be stationed in front of the mall to prevent the situation from degenerating.
Though the Manager of the outlet, Mr. Segun Aibola could not be reached on the phone as of the time of filing this report, as he was said to be outside the mall attending to some issues, the staff who answered the phone confirmed there was indeed an attack but the situation had been brought under control. He however did not state the extent of damage.
A similar attack was recorded at the Shoprite outlet in Lekki, Lagos.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian government has sent a special envoy to South Africa to convey President Buhari's concern about the situation. The envoy is expected to arrive South Africa latest, Thursday 5th September.
