Road Accident Information & Rescue Organization To Hold National Rescue Summit In Ibadan

In continuation of its 10th anniversary, the Road Accident Information and Rescue Organization, (RAIRO) an a organization that focuses on addressing carnage on the roads and safety consciousness among road users in the country, has put plans in place to bring top government and private recue organizations and major stakeholders to Ibadan to attend its National Rescue Summit.
RAIRO’s Commandant-General, Bamigboye Okanlawon disclosed that the summit, titled “Save A Life, Rescue Where You Are”, will hold on Thursday, September 26th, 2019 at the Large Lecture Theatre (LLT), Faculty of the Social Sciences, University of Ibadan by 10 am.
Commandant Okanlawon noted that the summit will address problems of harassment and intimidation facing voluntary rescue officers (helpers) as a way to encourage more volunteers to help dying and injured road accident victims in Nigeria.
He expressed that the summit is expected to bring about recommendations that will be forwarded to the National Assembly as a bill, ‘Good Samaritan Bill’ aimed at encouraging many Nigerian citizens who have the will to assist victims of road accidents.
Okanlawon said further that the programme will feature major players in Nigeria Politics and top stakeholders in the country’s rescue system to build confidence in ordinary citizens to come forward and assist road accident victims whenever there is emergency situation.
“Rescue Summit would encourage ordinary citizens to come forward and help dying and injured road accident victims in Nigeria without legal or procedural hassles and to proffer solutions to the perennial ugly situations faced by the volunteers during and after the rescue operations,” he said.
