Should I tell my mum about the horrible things I found on my stepdad’s computer?

DEAR DEIDRE: WHEN my stepdad grabbed my mum during a row last weekend, she was left with bruises all over her body.
They have been together for eight years and married for two. I’m a girl of 16 and I worry he’s controlling her.
I looked through the search history on his computer and found he’d watched rape porn and been on websites for male escorts.
Should I keep quiet or tell Mum?

DEIDRE SAYS: Talk to your mum when he is not there and tell her how worried you are. You have the right to say how you feel.
She is not to blame for being abused but she needs to realize how this affects you.
Ask her to look at womensaid.org.uk and call the National Domestic Violence helpline (0808 2000 247).
You are both at risk. Is counselling available through your school? Even if not, let your teacher know what you are coping with at home.
Meanwhile, keep as busy as you can with friends and your own life.
