When IBHS Class of 94 Held 25th Anniversary Reunion

The joy defied competent description as members of the Class of ’94, Ibadan Boys’ High School, Oke Bola came back together after 25 years of leaving the school. The reunion provided ample opportunity for the old boys to give back to their alma mater and also reminisce on their experiences as students.

The two-day event kicked off with a medical outreach on Friday, 28^th June. The team led by CSP Olakunle Kazeem was on hand to conduct free tests including Hepatitis B and free blood pressure checks.

Wole Adejumo and Mikaheel Ayo Adebowale took time to encourage the students to work towards their goals. Both relived their experiences as students of the school and made the students understand that they have the power to become who they want to be.

Dr. Ojo Adesina of the Department of Psychology, Lead City University delivered a career talk in which he advised students to work towards their dreams. While making them understand that there was no substitute for studying; he advised them to read, ask questions from their teachers and also consult their Guidance Counselor when necessary.  He also advised them to choose the right mentor. He made them understand that their school has produced many role models they can emulate.  

In his address, the Senior Prefect of the set, Steven Adeniyi Agbaje said “Ibadan Boys’ High School served as a major bridge builder to who we have all turned to be today”. He went to point out that it was on that premise; that like minds in the set came together in order to give back to the school.  The set’s Interim President, Taoviq Olatunji appreciated the trust and confidence reposed in him as the interim president. He also thanked everyone that committed time and resources into the reunion.He also thanked the school's Principal, Alhaji Olasupo, also an old boy for his support. 

“We are giving back to the school that laid the foundation of greatness for many of us and we will continue to do so by God’s grace”, Olatunji said.

Asiwaju Bode Amao, the National President of the school’s Old Boys’ Association, who graced the reunion said reports given to him showed that the Class of 94 was doing excellently well. While urging the Class of 94 to seek peaceful resolution to whatever differences they might have, Chief Amao said “the devil will not succeed in separating you; I pray that you will grow from strength to strength. The school still needs a lot of things. You may not be able to do a gigantic but do something. God will help you and you will all be progressive in your endeavours”.

Dr. Ademola Ojeleye, who received an award encouraged the present crop of students to face their fears. He also told them to stay focused and determined. I left Ibadan Boys’ High School with only one credit but that did not deter me”. He told the students how he went back to make his papers and his academic journey from Grade II to NCE till he bagged his Doctorate.

One of the high points of the award ceremony was the presentation Mr. Simeon Omowon’s post humous award. Mr. Omowon, who was the Principal all through the stay of the Class of 94 in the school was well revered by students and staff back then. Mr. Remi Omowon, who received the award on behalf of the family thanked the Class of 94 for deeming it fit to honour his late brother. Reminiscing, he said “this school has truly produced great men in different fields; doctors, engineers, soldiers and sportsmen. My brother, your Principal, was like a father to me. His footballing skills were honed on the grounds of this school.

He represented Nigeria as goalkeeper at the African University Games. We also had a brother, Niyi Omowon who played for the national team. Our house was right behind the school here and Ibadan Boys’ High School was the only arena where you could play football around”.

Awards were presented to deserving old boys including Asiwaju Bode Amao, Arc. Ebenezer Olugbenga Ogunbiyi, Elder Olaseni Peters, Rear Admiral Lateef Akintola, Prof. A.O Kunle-Olowu as well as Alhaji Ganiyu Ahmed.
The set procured notebooks for all students and has accepted to pick the bill for the terrazzo floor of the JS1 Block.
