Osun Election: "Appeal Court Dumped Substance For frivolities"- Odeyemi

The Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Prince Diran Odeyemi has described Thursday's Appeal Court Judgment, which upturned the Election Petitions Tribunal's judgment that declared Senator Nurudeen Ademola Adeleke of PDP winner of the governorship poll in favour of the All Progressives Congress candidate, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola as "repetition of old method of leaving the substance for the frivolities."

Prince Odeyemi who made the statement in a release sent to newsmen said, "history has just repeated itself and vindicated PDP that our judiciary has been infiltrated by some elements loyal to the ruling party, notably at the Appeal Court level  whose president is the wife of an APC Senator-elect."

Odeyemi said "if you remember, in 2010, the Appeal Court, based on a police report that was eventually found to be forged, that report ordered a retrial of that case at the lower court and when the retrial was going on, the  police denied ever releasing any report. After discovering a discrepancy on the major reason for the retrial, rather than dismissing the case and announcing Olagunsoye Oyinlola as winner because the report that forced that retrial was found to be a  forgery, the Appeal Court completely abandoned the main issue and ingloriously declared Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, the candidate of the ACN winner of that election on November 26th, 2010."

A lot of heads rolled as aftermath of that ignoble decision and many erstwhile respected justices had their careers and names messed up.

Prince Odeyemi, however, expressed hope that the final decisions on election petition tribunals have gone beyond the Appeal Court."

He said his party, PDP and its candidate, Senator Nurudeen Ademola Adeleke will get justice at the Supreme Court where he said "members still remain reliably incorruptible, honest and have been found to always allow the truth to excel."

Odeyemi, however expressed fear the future of Nigeria in the hands of men with questionable characters and also warned that something serious must be done about the image of the judiciary, especially at the Appeal Court level because men of proven integrity are expected at such a level where the future of the nation and her people are decided."

Prince Odeyemi said the party hierarchy has called an urgent meeting of all stakeholders in Osun State to calm down the people to be resolute, patient and go about their lawful businesses, avoid any act that can cause breach of law and order because PDP is a law abiding political party populated by decent, peaceful and peace loving people that believe in the rule of law to redress any wrong done to them."
