Police Arraign 22 in Court Over Ijebu Ode Cult Clash

The 22 suspects arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for having direct link with the violent clash between two rival cult groups in Ijebu-Ode on Sunday,10th and Monday 11th March 2019 have been arraigned before a Magistrate's Court in Isabo, Abeokuta on a four-count charge of criminal conspiracy, murder, belonging to unlawful societies and unlawful possession of live ammunition. 
   
The suspects were arrested following a violent clash between two rival cult groups, The Supreme Eiye and the Black Axe confraternities  which resulted in the death of three persons.
The Public Relations Officer of the Command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi disclosed that "to nip the crisis in the bud,  the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State, swiftly deployed some Special Units of the police like the PMF, SARS,  Anti-kidnapping/ Cultism units to join the Area Commander Ijebu-Ode who was already on ground at the scene and their combined operation led to the arrest of the suspects".
Oyeyemi also pointed out that "in continuation of our crack down on members of these dreaded groups,  some key leaders of the groups have been apprehended and they are currently undergoing police interrogation and investigation".
Their arraignment was in line with the marching order given by CP Ahmed Iliyasu to the Deputy Commissioner of Police in-charge of the case to diligently investigate and bring to book all those who have any link either directly or indirectly to the crisis, as well as their sponsors. 
The charge sheet reads that the accused persons "did conspire to commit felony to wit; murder and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 324 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun State 2006. 
The case has been adjourned till 3rd May for hearing.
