Ortom Declared Winner Of Benue Governorship Election


The Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has been re-elected for a second term in office. Ortom, who flew the flag of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), was declared winner on Sunday by the Returning Officer in the state, Professor Maimako Sebastian. 

Governor Ortom polled 434,473 votes to beat his closest rival and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Emmanuel Jime, who got 345,155 votes with a margin of 89,318.
Governor Samuel Ortom had polled 410,576 votes against Jime's 329,022 votes in the March 9 election. The election was however, declared inconclusive by due to the gap between the cancelled 121,019 votes and the winning margin of 81,554 votes.
The supplementary election was held in 204 polling units across 22 Local Government Areas in the state. 
Ortom was a member of the APC until he defected in July 2018.
