The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, declared Buhari as the validly elected president after the collation of results from the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory.
Buhari, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress polled a total of 15,191,847 votes to retain the seat he first won in 2015.
Closest to him was the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, who had 11,262,978 votes.
Buhari thus won clearly with a total of 3,928,869 votes.
A total of 29,364,209 Nigerians were accredited for the election.
A total of 28,614,190 votes were cast, while 27,324,583 of the votes were valid.
The rest, 1,289,607, were invalid.
