Ekiti Guber Poll: Group Condemns Fayose's "Reckless" Statement

The statement credited to the Governor of Ekiti state, Mr Ayodele Fayose wherein he reportedly "ordered" President Muhammadu Buhari and his entourage to leave the state immediately after the campaign for his party's candidate, Dr. Kayode Fayemi has been described as "reckless, irresponsible, inciting and vexatious which can only heat up the polity", as well as an assault on the Constitution of Nigeria which permits the freedom of movement of citizens in the country.

This was contained in a press statement issued on behalf of  the Coalition for Peaceful Election (COPE) by its spokesperson, Comrade Gbenga Soloki, who stressed that the Governor's statement is capable of scaring so many voters from coming out to exercise their civic duty on election day.

The group further stated that "the People's Democratic Party (PDP) should call the Governor to order while admonishing the Directorate of State Service (DSS) to seriously monitor the activities of the Governor before, during and after the election as his body language and utterances suggest a man, that is capable of throwing the state into chaos if his candidate loses the election"

According to COPE "We see the recent statement credited to the Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, where he threatened the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as reckless, inciting, vexatious and irresponsible. While all other stakeholders are asking and are being admonished on peaceful and orderly conduct before, during and after the July 14, 2018 gubernatorial election, the Governor, who is the chief security officer of the state and should champion the campaign has been embarking on divisive and inciting statements which is condemnable and despicable".

COPE equally appealed to all the political parties, politicians and the electorate to eschew violence before, during and after the election, while also advising that all actions must be geared for the good of the people of Ekiti in the long run.
