- Kunle Gazali
Politics is a game of interest,
and interest here is based on three major strands. The first one is the
interest of the platform; the political party on which one rides to a certain political
office, the second is the interest of the people who give their mandate during
elections and the third is the politician’s personal interest.
In the process of carrying out
the duties as a true representative of the party and the people, a responsive
and responsible political office holder must ensure that the three strands of
interests must be carried out without one conflicting with the others.
Hon. Adedapo Lam Adesina, the
member of the House of Representatives, representing Ibadan North East/South
East Federal Constituency is one of the legislators who are endeared to the
party hierarchy at all levels in Oyo State as a result of his belief in the
principle of party supremacy and public interest. The attribute he demonstrated
on the floor of the House of Representatives during the inauguration of the
standing committees, when many of his colleagues even from the state traded their
loyalty to the party for ‘juicy’ committees’ chairmanship.
Omo Oloore’s commitment to the
interest of the people of his constituency cannot be over emphasized. His
ability to make people the rallying point of his agenda is one of the qualities
that differentiate him from other legislators, particularly those that have
represented the constituency in the same capacity at the Green Chamber.
Hon. Adedapo Lam Adesina has
proved that quality representation is possible even from the constituency
consisting of two local governments that form the heartbeat of Ibadan. If put
into contest, it is guaranteed that Omo Oloore will take the lead if lawmakers
that have represented Ibadan North East/South East federal constituency since
1999 are to be rated in terms of quality representation and accessibility.
Apart from his constituency
outreach programmes which will be analyzed in subsequent reports, the young Lam
Adesina has established that the youth have arrived to take over the mantle of
leadership in the country through his participation in the presentation of
various bills and motions that have direct positive impact in the welfare
development of the people at the floor of the House.
In his bid to ensure to that his
constituency is adequately represented at the House of Representatives, Hon.
Lam Adesina has participated in the presentation of about 30 bills, motions and
petitions.
Earlier this year, Omo Oloore
presented two bills before the House to chart the way forward on very vital
issues affecting business and investment development in the country.
The National Fire Administration
(Establishment) Bill, 2018 which was to focus on strengthening the operation of
the Fire Service, with a view to reducing or curbing various incidences of
fire, particularly at markets was presented on March 6th, while the Trustee
Investment Act (Amendment) Bill, 2018 was presented before the House on March
22. The aim of the Trustee Investment Bill is to radically improve the
securities sub-sector of the economic in the country through the amendment of
certain aspects of existing law that have been in operation for a very long
time.
Hon. Lam Adesina, believes that
as a true democrat government is about the people, and to ensure the
sustainability of government, people must be made the rallying point. This is
what necessitated his intention to present the two bills to ensure the safety
of lives and properties of every individual in the country, the role he
believes is the primary responsibility of every responsible government. It is
also to improve on the level of investment in the country, which in return will
translate into the general improvement of the social well-being of an average
Nigerian.
Omo Oloore in his determination
to uphold the principle of equity, justice and fairness, and also to ensure
that Nigerians have access to regular electricity supply, took it upon himself
to challenge the authority of Electricity Distribution Companies (DISCOs) by
presenting a motion on the need to curb excessive electricity charges being
levied on consumers by the electricity distribution companies (DISCOs).
As a true son of the soil, who
always seeks the progress and development of his state, Hon. Lam Adesina, has
moved a motion for the rehabilitation of the moribund federal government
structures in Oyo State, and as well ensure even development across states of
the federation. He moved motions on the need to rehabilitate the Obafemi Awolowo
Stadium, Oke-Ado, rehabilitation of the National Museum, Alesinloye, and the urgent
need to rehabilitate the Ibadan/Ife Expressway all in Ibadan.
Omo Oloore, through his quality
representation at the Lower Chamber of the National Assembly, with the purpose
of making life meaningful to the people of his constituency submitted a
petition to the House on Pension Shortchange on behalf of a constituent who has
retired since 1987 after 34 years in service, but yet to receive his
entitlement.
Also, he has through his motion
called on federal government to compensate victims of Oja’ba incident, where an
articulated vehicle killed a number of citizens.
As one of the major players in
the project Oyo State and to support the development agenda embarked upon by Governor
Abiola Ajimobi legislative wise, Hon. Lam Adesina seconded a motion seeking for
the commencement of operations at Ibadan Dry Port, which has been completed
since 2014.
