Old Boys Plan Big For Ibadan Boys’ High School’s 80th Anniversary

Old students of Ibadan Boys’ High School, Oke Bola, Ibadan have started coming together to ensure a grand 80th anniversary and founder’s day celebration.
At a well-attended meeting held on Saturday at the Oyesina Memorial Hall in the school premises, a Central Planning Committee and ad-hoc committees were inaugurated. After the opening prayer, rendered by Prof Olusola Adeniran, the Director of Academic Planning at the Federal University of Agriculture, the National President of the school’s Old Boys’ Association and foremost industrialist, Asiwaju Bode Amoo took time to appreciate the quartet of Prof. Bade Oyekan, Otunba Reuben Famuyibo, Elder Seni Peters and Mr. Oyebolu (who died about 15 months ago) for the role they played in ensuring that the name of the school was bot changed and for being at the forefront of championing the Ibadan Boys’ High School cause.

While noting that the challenges are many, Asiwaju Amoo pointed out that the standard of the school has been raised and it is one of the best today. “Just last month, an old student came to pay WAEC and NECO fee for 50 students”.
Speaking further, he said “the buildings were dilapidated, you rose. Today, go and see what God has done in Ibadan Boys’ High School. We want you to contribute, not just money, but your ideas as well. It was not the government that helped us; we helped ourselves and through the Almighty God, things are getting done. So I challenge all of you to come together and make this school the envy of others and a reference point in this state.
In his address, the Chairman of the 80TH Anniversary Planning Committee, Elder Seni Peters confirmed that the plan is “to have an all-embracing participation by all sets that have passed out from the school”. He thereafter appealed to members of the sub-committees that were inaugurated “to work expeditiously, conscientiously and harmoniously to ensure that the goals and objectives of the 80th Anniversary Planning Committee and the National Old Boys’ Association are achieved”.
The Principal, Alhaji Olasupo Adeyemi, who incidentally is the second old student to be the school’s principal, the first being Mr. Simeon Omowon, reported that with the complementary effort of the school’s Old Boys, the school has been improving academically since he assumed office in December 2107.
The Principal confirmed that ON January 4, 2018, Mallam Yusuf Olaolu Alli (SAN) paid the WAEC and NECO fees of 50 out of the 68 students that registered for the examinations.
He also pointed out that the 1989 set donated 15 magnetic boards to the school for classroom teaching while the Class of ’83 sponsored the holiday coaching for SS3 students last December. The 1984 class have concluded plans to hire two teachers to teach Mathematics and Geography.
Adeyemi stated that “the school is ready to show that Chief T.L Oyesina’s legacy lives on in the quality of our current students and we are ready to showcase them and their achievements in the forthcoming 80th anniversary”.
Sets from 1955 downwards were represented at the meeting.
