Court Grants Elzakyzaky Unconditional Release

. Awards N 50m cost against FG 

Justice Gabriel Kolawole of a Federal High Court has granted bail to Ibrahim Yaqoub Elzakyzaky. The court said the Islamic Movement leader should be released unconditionally. The court also awarded N50 million as damages against the Federal Government, N 25 million each to be paid to him and his wife for unlawful detention by agents of the Federal Government.
Elzakyzaki, who founded the movement as a student of Ahmadu Bello University is the 1970s is a major proponent of Shia Islam and he has been in detention since December 2015 when the army raided his residence.
The onslaught on his residence left many casualties. The crisis was believed to have been as a result of an incident in which Zakyzky's followers who were in a procession had a confrontation with soldiers who were driving on the same road.
