"Hold Aregbesola responsible if Lassa Fever spreads to Osun"' - PDP

The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Sunday said the state governor, Ogbeni. Rauf Aregbesola should be held responsible, should the rampaging Lassa Fever and other deadly diseases spread to the state following what it described as "the decision of the governor to sack of all doctors working under the government".
The party, in a statement issued in Osogbo by its spokesperson, Prince Diran Odeyemi, said "the pronouncement by the Health Minister, Prof. Isaac Adewole that Lassa Fever has spread to the neighboring Oyo state should be enough warning signal for any right thinking governor not to pick up quarrel with its doctors so as not to jeopardize public health at this time.
"But the situation we have found ourselves in Osun is so pathetic and the governor appears helpless and confused. Findings from our members in Osun, Oyo states border villages like Alabameta and Papanla, indicate that there was tension in the last few days over insinuations that some sick people are showing symptoms of the dreaded Lassa Fever and yet doctors in Osun will be shown the way out of state by Mr. Aregbesola.
"Why fighting doctors at this time of near national emergency? Is Mr. Governor aware of increase in death since public health facilities are shut down because of strike by doctors?" the PDP queried.
The statement also condemned the sack of 141 staffers of the state-owned Colleagues of Education in Ila and Ilesa, saying adding to the population of those in the labour market with the number as much as 141 will further worsen living condition in the state.
PDP noted that despite constant denial by Aregbesola's administration that it was not merging tertiary institutions in the state, "yet all tertiary institutions except University of Osun have been delisted by JAMB and staff strength in the schools have been reduced while remedial courses are already being advertised for those schools."
The PDP therefore advised the state government to cut down on "frivolous spending that has completely eaten up its resources.
"Aregbesola should begin this by selling the controversial helicopter he claimed was bought for surveillance and as part of income generating drive but which is now being used to service the first family''s traveling needs".
