Wanted Mexican drug kingpin, Guzman escapes recapture

MEXICO CITY, (Xinhua) -- Mexico's drug cartel kingpin Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman fled from the security forces but got injured during an recent operation to recapture him in northwestern part of the country, Mexican government said in a statement on Friday.
In order to avoid his recapture, Guzman beat a hasty retreat and got injured in his leg and face, according to the statement.
The statement also emphasizes that "these injuries were not the product of a direct clash," without providing detailed information.

Guzman, leader of the Sinaloa drug cartel, escaped from the maximum-security Altiplano prison outside of Mexico City on July 11 through a 1.5-km tunnel under his cell. His escape has caused an uproar among the public.
In the past few weeks, the searching operations for the fugitive drug lord have focused on the northwestern part of the country, the statement said.
The government said it will continue the operations to nab Guzman back.
