Police detectives attached
to Sagamu and Odogbolu Divisions of the Ogun State Police Command dislodged and
arrested five suspected armed robbers who have been terrorizing people of the two affected areas within the state on Tuesday at 5.30 and 9.30 pm respectively.
While
responding to a distress call from Atoyo area of Sagamu in Sagamu Local Government Area, detectives attached to the Sagamu Division, caught the suspected armed robbers in the
act and four of them including Abdul Sulaiman, Awonusi Tola, Aliu
Sulaiman and Dada Fred were arrested.
The Command's Public Relations Officer, DSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi disclosed that items recovered from them
included guns and their operational motorcycle.
In
another development,the detectives attached to Odogbolu Division of the
command,with the help of men of the Vigilante Services of Ogun
State,arrested a suspected armed robber around 9.39 pm on Tuesday at
Ayegbe town in Odogbolu Local Government Area.
The suspected robbers had gained entrance into the residence of a certain landlord when policemen were called. They promptly swung into action, dislodged the robbers and
eventually arrested a suspect,Yekini Adesonya, 30,of Songo Village Ogun
State,with bullet wounds.
Adejobi stated that "the suspected armed
robbers had shot and wounded a resident of Ayegbe before the arrival
of the police and Vigilante Services. The injured innocent man
was later taken to the hospital by the police and he is responding to
treatment".
The Commissioner of. Police. Ogun State, CP Abdulmajid Ali has directed that the suspects be transferred to
Department of Criminal Investigation and Intelligence in Eleweran,
Abeokuta for proper investigation and prosecution.
The
Commissioner of Police also appreciated the members of those
affected communities who made distress calls to the police for their
interest and support in having adequate security in the state. He
assured that the police command will leave no stone unturned to relegate
and suppress any criminals or hoodlums who want to disturb the existing
peace being enjoyed in Ogun State.
