As Ogun police nab fake soldier with dummy gun
37-year-old Dabeshi Umoru of Dadajira Street,Sabo,Sagamu has become the guest of the Ogun State Police Command after he was arrested around 6pm on Saturday for defiling a 7 year old girl of the same address.
37-year-old Dabeshi Umoru of Dadajira Street,Sabo,Sagamu has become the guest of the Ogun State Police Command after he was arrested around 6pm on Saturday for defiling a 7 year old girl of the same address.
He was arrested by detectives attached to the Sagamu Division of the Command after the
victim's father reported the incident to the
police and stated that the suspect forcefully had unlawful carnal
knowledge of his daughter around 4pm on Friday.
While confirming Umoru's arrest, the Command's Public Relations Officer, DSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi disclosed that "the
suspect did not deny the allegation. The matter will be charged to
court immediately the case is transferred to the Department of Criminal
Investigation and Intelligence, Eleweran, Abeokuta for the command has
credible evidence to arraign the suspect".
The
Commissioner of Police Ogun State, CP Abdulmajid Ali has condemned the
act and vowed to deal decisively with anyone caught in this barbaric act
in the state. He however warned parents and guardians not to entrust
their young ones in the hand of undesirable and criminally-minded
elements.
In
another development, Police Detectives attached to Onipanu Division
of the Command arrested one Ayodele Adedeji,of Jackross, Iyana
Iyesi, Ota for parading himself as a soldier in the Nigeria Army on
Friday.
Adejobi disclosed that the suspect,who had been placed under
surveillance by members of the public in the area ,was accosted
while the members of the community called the attention of a sergeant in
the Nigerian army who resides in that same community to identify
him,but the sergeant was not satisfied with the suspect's
explanation. He was promptly handed over to the police.
The PPRO went on that "on
interrogation, the suspect confessed to be a fake soldier who had been
in the dirty business of impersonation for long. He stated further that
his elder brother was in the Army and he died some years back before he
picked up all his uniforms and accouterments for use.
Items
recovered from the suspect included two pairs of complete Nigerian Army
uniforms, fake Nigeria Army ID card, jungle boot,dummy gun and accoutrements of
the Nigerian Army.
The
Commissioner of Police CP Abdulmajid Ali has directed the Deputy
Commissioner of Police Investigation and Intelligence Ogun State to
thoroughly investigate the matter and widen the scope of his
investigation to know the antecedents of the suspect in the areas of
kidnapping,land speculation, armed robbery and the like,so as to have
proper investigation and prosecution of the case.
