. Grab 3-1 away victory
Shooting Stars FC of Ibadan, on Monday sent strong signals
to its remaining opponents in the Nigerian Professional Football League with a
3-1 win over Heartland of Owerri.
The match which was scheduled for Sunday was abandoned in
the 25th minute due to the heavy downpour that made the pitch of the Rojenny
Stadium, Oba waterlogged.
Within three minutes of resumption, Heartland showed some
brilliance as Fortune Omoniwari almost got a goal after 3SC’s Isa Danladi had
saved a shot from Heartland’s Ogbuh.
The “Oluyole Warriors” approached the game with all
seriousness and determination to improve their standing on the league table.
3SC drew the first blood in the 37th minute through Tope Orelope
who smashed home from a rebound at the edge of the penalty area while the
Owerri lads equalized in added time as the first half was winding up through Fortune
Omoniwari who marked his debut for the club with that goal. He headed in a
lovely cross from Kingsley Ajaero.
He tried again after three minutes with a well curved
free-kick which was punched out by Danladi who gave a good account of himself.
Within two minutes of the second half, Cletus Itodo put the
Ibadan team ahead while Najeem Olukokun took the game beyond the reach of
Heartland with his goal in the 64th minute as the Owerri side paid dearly for
all the chances they missed.
The victory, which is their first away win this season and
under Coach Gbenga Ogunbote puts Shooting Stars on the 9th position.
Meanwhile, despite the away win, 3SC has never beaten the
Heartlanders at their traditional Dan Anyiam Stadium home ground in Owerri.
