Ogun Police Caution on New Car Snatching Techniques

The Ogun State Police Command of the Nigeria Police Force, on Monday hinted the public on new methods devised by car snatchers to dispossess motorists of their vehicles.
In a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Command, DSP Muuyiwa Adejobi and made available to The Anchor Online, the command exposed systems like the use of motorbikes and false alarms.
Below is the text of the statement:

The Ogun State Police Command
has observed with keen interest the new modus operandi of thieves and car snatchers who have recently come up with a method of using motorbikes on the major highways in Ogun state particularly along Lagos/Ibadan,Sagamu/Abeokuta,Abeokuta/Lagos and Sagamu/Ijebu Ode/Benin, to perpetrate evil acts, where they show 'fake' care or sympathy to road users and eventually rob them or snatch their vehicles.

The hoodlums, in most cases, flag down road users,or raise alarm of punctured tyre or damaged portion on their vehicles with the pretense of being caring or showing sympathy, but eventually rob anyone who yields to their fake care or alarm.

The command deems it necessary to caution the good people of OGUN State and those in transit within the state to note and beware of these hoodlums with their new mode of operation.

The Commissioner of Police Ogun State,CP Val Ntomchukwu, made this known today during his Monday briefing with his officers, including Area Commanders,Divisional Police Officers and Heads of Departments in Ogun State,at Eleweran Abeokuta on Monday.

The Police boss took it as a point of responsibility to get the general public abreast of this modus operandi in order to put them in the know of the new trend of criminal operations, and to enlighten the public on possible way forward.

The Commissioner of Police, however, made it known that many of these criminals have been caught in the act and will definitely be caused to face the heavy wrath of the law. The Command has arrested almost ten (10) suspected car snatchers using this particular modus operandi within two weeks. He also seized the opportunity to put officers and men of the command on their toes to avail OGUN people adequate protection of lives and property.
