Obasanjo Finally Quits PDP, Tears Membership Card!

Two days after he was accused by the Presidency, of plotting to scuttle Nigeria's democratic process by ensuring that an Interim Government, which he would head takes over from the present administration, former President Olusegun Obasanjo has announced his decision to quit the Peoples Democratic Party, the party on whose platform he was elected as Nigeria's president in 1999 and re-elected in 2003.

He announced the decision on Monday when PDP members from Ward II, Abeokuta North Local Government Area of Ogun State paid him a visit at his Hilltop Mansion. The delegation was led by the Ward Chairman of the party, Alhaji Usman Oladunjoye.
In an apparent move to show that there was no going back on his decision, the former President gave his card to the Chairman and asked him to tear it.
When the applause that greeted the announcement died down, Chief Obasanjo announced that he has become a true statesman. It will be recalled that sometime ago, the former President announced that he was giving the PDP a berth and would not be taking part in the party's activities.
Chief Obasanjo has been very critical of the Dr. Goodluck Jonathan administration lately.
