Soldiers reportedly fled the area as terrorists swooped on the town, shooting and burning houses.
While the military put the body count at 150, some
organizations claimed it was as high as 2,000.
The video, like others before it showed Mallam Shekau in military
combat gear surrounded by masked men carrying rifles.
Speaking in Hausa language, he said “we are the ones that
carried out the attack and it is just the tip of the iceberg. There are more
coming.” He also claimed the weapons seized from the military base in Baga are
“enough to annihilate Nigeria.”
In the video, Shekau also hurled taunts at Presidents Paul
Biya, Mahamadou Issoufou and Idris Deby of Cameroon, Niger and Chad
respectively stating that their armies cannot hinder the terrorist group’s
operations.
He also had a word for the main contenders in Nigeria’s
forthcoming Presidential election as he said “Jonathan you are in trouble… And
Buhari, do you think he is a true Muslim? He’s an infidel.”
