Protests Rock Venue of Jonathan's Campaign in Maiduguri

There were pockets of protests at the venue of the presidential rally of the People's Democratic Party, PDP in Maiduguri on Saturday. Youths took to the Rmat Square venue bearing placards and banners to protest the imposition of Mohammed Imam as the governorship candidate of the party as against Gambo Lawan who won the shadow election. Investigations revealed that the emergence of Imam was largely facilitated by the former Governor, Alhaji Ali Modu Sheriff.
Security operatives forced the protesters to shift from the programme as they were bent on occupying the place before the arrival of the president, some had to be beaten before they moved back.

The Anchor Online gathered that the already heavy military presence in the Borno State capital was boosted by a detachment of soldiers sent with the president's advance team. Armoured personnel carriers and stern looking security operatives were on patrol everywhere in Maiduguri.
The Borno rally was somewhat like the one that was held in Bauchi, the President was booed by some youths who called him 'Boko Haram commander". Some others left on the president's arrival while chants of 'sai Buhari" were audible.
The grouse most Borno indigenes have with the President is his failure to visit the state in the last 4 years, especially in the heat of the abduction of over 200 students of the Government Secondary School, Chibok as well as the massacre of civilians in Baga.
Incidentally, Saturday's visit was the second the President paid to Borno State within a week.
