Terrorists Storm Prison in Kogi, Free 144 Inmates

The Nigerian Prisons Service correctional facility in Koton Karfe, Kogi State, was on Monday invaded by gun wielding men suspected to be Boko Haram terrorists. In the course of the early morning attack, no fewer than 144 inmates were reportedly set free. One prisoner also lost his life.

The Anchor gathered that the attackers carried out a well planned operation in which explosives were used.
The attack was confirmed by staff of the Prisons Service who refused to give details of the attack.
Efforts are reportedly on to track down some of the fleeing inmates.
The facility is about 20 minutes drive from Lokoja, the Kogi State capital and about an hour from the Federal Capital Territory.
The attack came barely 72 hours after Mallam Shekau, the terrorist group's leader released a new video in which he promised the group would continue to fight the Nigerian government, as he ruled out negotiation in any form.
