Senate Confirms Mahmud Mohammed as Nigeria's Chief Justice

The Senate has confirmed Justice Mahmud Mohammed as the Chief Justice of Nigeria.
Justice Mohammed, who replaces Justice Aloma Mukhtar as the CJN appeared before the Senate on Tuesday.
In the course of answering questions during his screening, the new CJN pointed out that he believes the office of the Attorney General of the
Federation should be separated from that of the Minister for Justice. In Justice Mohammed's opinion, the appointment of the Justice Minister is political while the Attorney General's job is concerned with the administration of justice.
He takes over from Justice Aloma Mukhtar who retired having attained the age of 70.
