Police Seize 30 kg of Cannabis in Oldham

Four people have been arrested after a large quantity of cannabis was discovered in Oldham as part of Programme Challenger - Greater Manchester’s biggest ever approach to tackling drug dealing and organised crime.

They were arrested when officers from Oldham Divisional Organised Crime Unit searched an address on Waterloo Street in Glodwick on Friday 26 September 2014, and seized 30 kilogrammes of cannabis with an estimated street value of £300,000.

Three men aged 31, 36 and 53 and a woman aged 28 were arrested on suspicion of the possession of cannabis with the intent to supply.

Two of the men and the woman have been bailed pending further enquiries.

Jahngheer Younis Ali (11/07/78) of Waterloo Street was charged with the possession of cannabis with the intent to supply and appeared at Oldham Magistrates’ on Saturday, where he was remanded into custody.

Superintendent Denise Worth of Oldham Division said:

“This sends out a message to the organised crime groups in Oldham that we will never give up on our fight against them. Drugs cause widespread destruction to users and have a wider impact on the community.

“Communities have told us that they want drugs and drug dealing tackled across the borough and I hope that this continuous action highlights how seriously we take these crimes.

“We want to send the message to organised crime groups in Oldham that the community doesn’t want them here, and we will continue to uncover and destroy this activity at every opportunity."

Programme Challenger is a Government-supported, partnership-focused response to organised crime across Greater Manchester. It targets the criminal networks across the region and uses a multitude of powers to detect and destroy organised crime activity.
