Ogun CP Orders Investigation Into Market Fire

After the fire incident that destroyed some sections of the popular cattle market at Isheri in Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State on Sunday, the Commissioner of Police Ogun State, CP Ikemefuna Okoye led  a team of other senior police officers to inspect the scene and assess the extent of damage on Monday.
The Commissioner of Police was accompanied by the Area Commander, Otta ACP Titilayo Kayode, Divisional police Officer Ojodu Abiodun, CSP Mohammed Sani, Commander 16 PMF, SP Baba Audu and The Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State, DSP Muyiwa Adejobi.


The inferno started around 6pm on Sunday and destroyed some of the shops and shanties used by market men and women in the Kara market leaving property worth millions of naira destroyed.
The cause of the inferno remained unknown as of the time of the Commissioner's visit.

The Assistant General Secretary of the Kara market, Mr Mohammed Sanni, who received the Commissioner lamented that such an incident occurred same time last year and made it known that they want a thorough investigation into the incident.

The Commissioner of Police therefore directed the Area Commander and the Officer in charge Disaster Management Unit of the Ogun State Police Command, DSP Olumide Jimoh to carry out thorough investigation into the matter and forward their reports within a week for necessary action.

CP Okoye sympathized with the Kara market community on the loss and assured them of adequate security of lives and property in the area;  while he seized the opportunity to advise the traders to always switch off their electrical appliances after their daily activities and keep away any inflammable substances that can ignite fire in their respective shops or around them.
